Rock Island County, IL selects Solacom's Guardian NG9-1-1 solution

Six public safety answering points (PSAPs) in Rock Island County supported by the Rock Island Emergency Telephone System Board will soon have a new Solacom Guardian for responding to 9-1-1 calls, including Text-to-911

Chicago, IL, November 3, 2015 — Solacom Technologies, the industry leader in Next Generation 9-1-1 solutions has been chosen by the Rock Island County Emergency Telephone System Board to supply, install and service a new Guardian Next Generation 9-1-1 call taking system to replace an end-of-life ECS-1000 at six Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) serving the county’s 150,000 citizens.

The Solacom solution will be deployed in a redundant, geo-diverse configuration at the Rock Island Emergency Communications Center and Moline locations to help withstand natural or man-made disasters. Those 2 facilities will host surrounding PSAPs located in Silvis, Milan, Rock Island County and Rock Island Arsenal. Rock Island Arsenal is the largest government operated weapons arsenal in the US.

The new system is expected to be in service by next spring. The PSAPs will each receive Solacom Guardian Intelligent 9-1-1 Workstations (IWS), an extremely powerful next generation 9-1-1 call taking position designed to maximize the effectiveness of call taking. The intuitive user interface allows Call Takers to quickly assess, prioritize and handle landline, wireless and VoIP calls. Call Takers can quickly create conferences, transfer calls, determine the location of wireless callers and recall recently recorded conversations.

The Guardian IWS is also designed to be future proof so that next generation capabilities such as Text-to-911, or exchanging video, photos and data with Call Takers or first responders can be supported as they become standardized and available to the public. “One of the many reasons we selected the Solacom solution was the integrated text-to-911 capabilities, including routing these calls to only qualified operators” said Steve Seiver, Chairman, Rock Island County Emergency Telephone System Board.

Solacom will provide many core elements of the new system, including:

  • Next Generation 9-1-1 call controllers
  • Border Control Function (BCF)
  • Guardian Intelligent 9-1-1 Workstations (IWS)

“We are honored to help this region with a system that lays the foundation for next generation 9-1-1 functionality, we’ve been fortunate to have many other customers in the Midwest select Solacom and we remain committed to their success” said Tony Parrott, Solacom vice president of sales.
