Solacom validates Next Generation 9-1-1 interoperability at NENA's Industry Collaboration Event

Testing of Guardian 9-1-1 Solution verifies and validates interoperability with leading vendors according to NENA’s industry specifications

Chicago, IL, April 18, 2017 — Solacom Technologies confirmed Next Generation (NG9-1-1) interoperability of its Guardian 9-1-1 Solution after significant product testing at the National Emergency Number Association’s (NENA) latest Industry Collaboration Event (ICE). Solacom, the supplier of the most flexible, user-centric voice, data, and video emergency call management solution for Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), was one of the vendors at ICE 7, which took place from March 19 – 22, 2017

ICE 7 is the latest in a series of yearly events hosted by NENA, the public safety industry’s professional organization dedicated to establishing industry leading standards and facilitating the creation of an IP-based NG9-1-1 system. The event brought together more than 20 leading vendors to test their products in a real-time lab setting. Participation is crucial in establishing consistency in implementation across different manufacturers.

“These events are very critical in making sure the NENA specifications for NG9-1-1 are field tested, verified and validated. ICE 7 also paves the way for ensuring interoperability between manufacturers,” said Daniel Biage, Solacom vice president, research and development. “We are pleased that we were able to continue to confirm interoperability of our Guardian 9-1-1 Solution with existing and emerging NENA specifications. Each ICE event tests different portions of the NENA specification.”

Biage and his team tested various NG9-1-1 data exchange functions with the Solacom Guardian 9-1-1 Solution, a flexible, user-centric voice, data and video emergency call management solution for Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). Unlike other solutions that are adapted for public safety, Solacom’s emergency call management solutions are purpose-built to provide complete, end-to-end multimedia call control in PSAPs. These solutions have been designed from the ground up to manage any emergency call from any device, from anywhere, and in any format—voice, data or video.

The ICE 7 vendor-to-vendor direct testing was hosted by the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) School of Applied Technology’s Real-Time Communications Lab.

ICE 7 participants used current, pending, and in-development standards for these tests, gaining knowledge that only collaborative, multi-party testing can provide. The result was a better understanding of how these emerging areas of technology interface with NG9-1-1’s core services as defined by the NENA i3 standard, the industry-consensus foundational document that governs how NG9-1-1 works.
