Benefits of Migrating to NG9-1-1 Highlighted at NENA 2018 Conference & Expo

PSAPs advise making the move to an IP-based system now to take advantage of flexible routing, text-to-911 integration, and location-based call transfer

NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 21, 2018 — Public safety industry experts from Solacom, a leader in Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) emergency call handling and management systems, and representatives from public safety answering points (PSAPs) from across the country say migrating to NG9-1-1 will lead to operational benefits and increased efficiencies.

These insights from NG9-1-1 deployments were presented at the NENA 2018 Conference & Expo, which took place June 16-21 at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

“While many PSAPs across the country are still struggling to decide whether to make the move to an IP-based call handling system, the antiquated legacy equipment these 9-1-1 centers run on can’t keep up with today’s calling habits and can’t benefit from the advanced features only an NG9-1-1 system can deliver,” says Tony Parrott, Solacom’s vice president of sales.

“The PSAPs that Solacom has equipped say migrating to NG9-1-1 has made their operation a real PSAP of the future.”

Parrott was moderating the NENA 2018 panel, “NG9-1-1 Benefits: Real-World Examples From PSAPs,” where PSAP representatives from Kentucky, Maine, and Texas shared examples of how their successful NG9-1-1 implementations have led to operational benefits and improved call handling. Flexible routing, text-to-911, i3 logging, and easy access to new releases were just some examples. PSAPs in each of these states overcame the cost hurdle by either going statewide or sharing a hosted network.

The operational value of NG9-1-1 geo-enabled selective transfer capabilities was highlighted by the Maine PSAP and Ray Vilis, Solacom’s vice president of strategic initiatives, who presented during the NENA 2018 panel, “NG9-1-1 in Maine & the Value of Geo-Enabled Call Transfers.”
