Guardian Mobile Position added to Solacom’s NG9-1-1 Emergency Services Platform

Chicago, IL, September 15, 2011 — Solacom Technologies announced the general availability of a new Guardian Mobile Position as part of their next generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) Emergency Services Platform. The new product, first unveiled at the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) conference last June, is a fully IP mobile workstation that allows Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) professionals to work from any location that has a high-speed Internet connection.

The capability to ‘go mobile’ is critical if a PSAP is forced to evacuate the building, or if a catastrophe requires call takers to work from an Emergency Operations Center and other remote locations. It is also an economical solution when a sudden escalation of PSAP call volumes results in an overflow situation and the immediate need for additional 9-1-1 positions.

Guardian Mobile Position lets emergency call takers operate as though they were at their regular workstation, with all the same features and capabilities. For example, while on-site at an incident they can create a multi-party conference with on-scene control of all conference participants.

“When mobile, your strength and effectiveness depend on having access to your emergency network resources and features that help you do your job” commented Ray Vilis, Solacom vice president of Advanced Emergency Services. “Guardian Mobile Position was developed to keep you connected to those resources from anywhere you have access to the Internet.”

The Guardian Mobile Position is being deployed by several PSAPs that are adding mobility to their emergency services solution. “Guardian Mobile is built on the same platform as their Guardian PSAP solution so that even when mobile, responders have the same user interface and all of the same functionality that they are familiar with – including the one-button transfer and conference keys they’ve programmed” said Michael Ramsey, president of NG-911 Inc. “This greatly increases their emergency preparedness and their ability to respond to 9-1-1 calls even if an incident requires them to relocate,” added Ramsey.

The complete Guardian Mobile Position includes a ruggedized laptop with Guardian Mobile Position software preloaded and configured, an over-the-head, binaural headset with microphone, a USB-to-headset adapter (designed specifically for applications that utilize VoIP softphone technology) and a lightweight carrying case that is watertight, crushproof, and dust proof.
