Solacom’s Hosted NG9-1-1 solution now supports Text-to-911

Residents served by public safety answering points (PSAPs) hosted by the Solacom NG9-1-1 center in Kansas will soon be able to send a Text to 911 for help

Chicago, IL, October 19, 2016 — Solacom Technologies, the industry leader in Next Generation 9-1-1 solutions has announced that their Kansas-based Hosted NG9-1-1 solution has been enhanced to support Text-to-911, joining Solacom’s other Text-to-911 capable solutions in Alabama, Florida, Vermont, and many other locations. This solution meets all of the specifications in the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) i3 technical requirements.

The NG9-1-1 solution, which provides Hosted PSAP services to counties in the region, will now be able to receive Text-to-911 calls once the Kansas 911 Coordinating Council concludes their planning and selects a Text Control Center for the State. The Solacom Text-to-911 implementation is already in operation at locations across the USA.

Using the NG9-1-1 method, which utilizes SIP/MSRP to deliver the Text-to-911 messages, allows the Hosting system to present the call to PSAP call takers in the same manner and priority as all other types of 9-1-1 calls. The Solacom Hosted NG9-1-1 solution also allows for transferring text calls to other call takers, or to any of the PSAPs that are served by the Hosted NG9-1-1 solution. In addition, the SIP/MSRP method allows text calls to be displayed on a map, using unique icons to show the location of the caller and distinguish the text call from other types of 9-1-1 calls that may also be displayed on the map.

NENA’s overarching mission is to ensure interoperability between and among PSAPs by creating guidelines for all vendors to follow. Solacom embraces this initiative and implements NENA requirements to ensure that each PSAP has the ability to exchange 9-1-1 calls and their location information with all other PSAPs in a vendor agnostic way.
