Sussex County, NJ turns up new Solacom next generation 9-1-1 system
Solacom Guardian geo-diverse call taking system goes live and brings a new level of 9-1-1 service to Sussex County, NJ
Chicago, IL, Dec 22, 2014 — Solacom Technologies announced that it has completed the installation of a Guardian Next Generation 9-1-1 system in Sussex County, NJ. The system is now serving the entire County and processing calls for the municipalities of Branchville, Frankford, Fredon, Green, Hampton, Lafayette, Montague, Sandyston, Stillwater and Walpack.
Solacom was awarded the contract after a rigorous evaluation of options by the County to equip a new 9-1-1 Communications Center in Frankford. The Center has now transitioned their public safety answering point (PSAP) from a circuit switched telephone system to a Next Generation 9-1-1 system. The Solacom solution has an IP-based architecture that meets existing i3 specifications developed by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), and is capable of evolving as those specifications are further developed.
The Next Generation i3 call taking solution sets the stage for new ways of communicating with
9-1-1 centers by such means as texting, sending videos and photos, or even automatically generated messages from critical medical devices. The Solacom solution is backwards compatible with older networks making it ideal for 9-1-1 centers that need to transition into the next generation of 9-1-1. The new Guardian system allows Sussex County to support calls made over traditional phone lines, and Internet-based Next Generation 9-1-1 calls as well as future capabilities as they are standardized by telephone service providers.
The Guardian NG9-1-1 Controller was deployed in a geo-diverse configuration, meaning one host was installed at the new 9-1-1 Communications Center, and the second host at another location within the County. Each host site is capable of supporting the entire network in the event that one of the sites becomes unavailable. “There are multiple levels of redundancy built into the Solacom system to ensure this robust solution is capable of withstanding natural disasters and emergency events,” said Tony Parrott, Solacom vice president of sales.
Both locations are equipped with the Guardian Intelligent Workstation (IWS) user interface that provides state-of-the-art 9-1-1 functionality for public safety telecommunicators. Guardian IWS provides call control functionality not seen before in any product. Call takers will have complete control over each participant of a 9-1-1 call allowing them to create private conversations or mute disruptive participants. Telecommunicators can also join two separate calls together dynamically allowing parties who call into the system to communicate with public safety responders when appropriate.
