Solacom Demystifies Cybersecurity Basics for PSAPs at APCO Canada 2018 Conference

Informative presentation and Q&A session focus on education, prevention, and disaster mitigation

CHICAGO, Ill., October 25, 2018 — The fundamentals of cybersecurity that every Canadian public safety answering point (PSAP) should be aware of will be the focus of a presentation by Solacom at the APCO Canada Conference & Tradeshow 2018 at Le Centre Sheraton in Montreal, Quebec, on November 6, 2018.

Cybersecurity 101: What Every PSAP Needs to Know is a can’t-miss session presented by Gilles Ferland, Solacom’s vice president of product development. The session is geared to PSAP decision-makers who want to increase their knowledge about potential threats so they can better protect their PSAP’s call handling and management systems from cyberattacks.

“The attacks that have shut down or crippled PSAPs in the U.S. recently have not gone unnoticed by Canadian PSAPs. People are watching but still don’t always know the nature of the threats that are out there,” says Ferland. “It’s important to know that if you plan correctly, you will be better prepared for the threats that exist and have a better chance to recover from a direct attack. People will leave the session empowered with the essential knowledge they will need to create a cybersecurity strategy.”

The session looks at the types of attacks that may affect PSAPs and the steps PSAPs can take to immediately protect emergency call handling operations. Like Ferland’s well-attended cybersecurity panel at APCO 2018 in Las Vegas this summer, this session will feature plenty of time for audience questions and discussion.
